HD camera pigging survey supports commissioning of 14” heat exchanger pipelines
iNPIPE PRODUCTS™
was engaged to undertake a high-definition (HD) camera pigging survey on two newly installed 14” heat exchanger pipeline systems
in the north of Scotland. The objective was to verify internal cleanliness and confirm defect-free construction ahead of commissioning.
Prior to the survey, the pipelines had undergone initial cleaning using a series of foam pigs to remove construction debris.
These included low-density
criss-cross coated foam pigs followed by medium-density single spiral nylon brush pigs, ensuring the lines were suitably
prepared for internal inspection.
Following review of the project details and discussions with the client, a complete cleaning and survey package was provided,
including project management, design and manufacture of foam cleaning and gauging pigs, dual-density HD camera foam pigs,
receiving cans and pigging equipment, LED illuminated HD camera technology and personnel to support operations.
On mobilisation to site, personnel proceeded to load and launch dual-density HD camera foam pigs. Each heat exchanger system
was surveyed twice, with
footage captured and reviewed after each run.
The camera pigs provided a clear 360° internal view throughout the full length of the system, with all features, welds and spool identifications visible. This allowed easy correlation between the footage and pig location, verifying internal cleanliness and the defect-free condition of the pipeline.
Pigs were received in purpose-built receiving cans, allowing for quick recovery and subsequent runs, making efficient use of the available time onsite.
This project highlights the value of HD camera pigging as a practical and efficient tool for pre-commissioning verification, particularly where clear visual confirmation of internal pipeline condition is required.

iNPIPE PRODUCTS™’ Phoenix debris mapping capability can be integrated with HD camera pigging to provide a detailed understanding of debris within the
pipeline, including quantification of debris thickness to 0.1 mm, location and identification of potential restrictions or pinch points.
